US Space and Rocket Center Field Trip

Our Classical Conversations community visited the US Space and Rocket Center yesterday! It ended up being a double-blessing - the da Vinci exhibit was included in our trip! Awesome!

A Psychiatrist's Playground. . .

. . . the Alabama Renaissance Faire!

Look closely:

What you can't see is the blue food mobile behind these folks. It's selling $10 turkey legs on a stick - awesome!

Notice anything a little. . . hmmm. . . out of the ordinary in the picture above (besides the obvious, right)? Like, say, a Renaissance wolfman? Yeah, not sure what was up with that. This event was perfect for people-watching and flea-market-style shopping, but there really wasn't anything special for the kids. Kind of a bummer, really. But the weather was nice, and it was fun to walk around with my family and enjoy the day.

Although there weren't too many educational activities (we won't return next year), one family had an ingenious way of keeping little ones busy: coins in a haystack! If you found a gold coin, you could trade it in at a small booth for an even smaller toy. The girls scoured the hay while I roamed for a few minutes to get the pictures. Hmm... I'm thinking I should try this coin-in-the-hay scheme at home! Just kidding. . . or am I? ;)

Ship Trip!

Happy Columbus Day!

Our CC group recently took a field trip to see life-size replicas of the Nina and Pinta! Here are some fun shots of our ship trip!

Love these families, and I still can't believe we managed to get a group shot! Awesome!

Pumpkin Patch and Sword-Fighting!

Call us crazy, but our Classical Conversations community had our first two field trips on the same day! Aaaaahhh!! It was intense, but well worth the time and effort.

First, we started our afternoon at a local pumpkin patch:

Cycle 2 Field Trips - Already?

Gotcha! No, we're not going on Cycle 2 trips just yet, but I am starting to plan (because I'm just crazy like that). Here's what I've got so far:

Why, hello, Robin Hood and Maid Marian! In anticipation of studying the Middle Ages and beyond next year (btw, I can't say that without singing it the way it sounds on the new timeline song, anyone else?!), we are planning a late Spring trip to the Tennessee Renaissance Festival! It just so happens that my cousin works for this company! She travels around the country working these awesome festivals. We can't wait!

And of course, we can't study this time period without a trip to Atlanta's Medieval Times! The girls are going to LOVE this! I grew up in California, and I have many fond memories of going to the one in Buena Park. Seriously, who doesn't want to have baby dragon for dinner?! (yes, it's really just chicken, I know, I know. ;)  )

Now, these are just plans, and plans can certainly change. But I am having fun tossing around ideas and getting excited about what's to come in the next cycle. Do you have some good trip ideas for Cycle 2 next year? If so, please leave a comment; don't be shy now!
