A New Direction

Yup, it's what it looks like...

We're not homeschooling anymore.

God has called us in a different direction.

It all started the end of last school year when my youngest, Anna, started having extra therapy appointments during the day. We had to leave CC early for the last six weeks or so, and I knew something needed to change. My director was amazing, and the moms in class were so accommodating and supportive, but I knew I couldn't keep this up.

We first looked into different homeschool co-ops that would be less of a time commitment, but God never gave us peace. We explored the private school option, and today Mary starts her first full week as a second-grader at our church's academy.

It's different, that's for sure. I can't believe I'm not with her; being apart from her is hard. But, she's happy (she couldn't wait to get to school today!), and we feel God's hand in all of this.

What started this spring as an extra therapy appointment for Anna has turned into weekly doctor appointments and hospital stays that have sapped my energy (and sometimes sanity). We go in tomorrow for a 24-hour video EEG to check for seizures (she's not sleeping through the night still, and Anna's first sleep study indicated seizures and sleep apnea).

Yeah, try to sleep with all that on ya; good luck!

We start vision therapy in a couple of weeks, and that's twice a day (at their office) for two weeks, then twice a day at home. We go back to Memphis next week for her laser procedure to take off her latest round of basal cell cancer spots, and the list goes on.

So, I'm not homeschooling.

And I'm finally coming to terms with that.

And we're going to take things year by year.

And that's okay.

The best thing is that I finally feel God's peace about this whole situation.

I don't know what I'm going to do with this little blog yet, but I know that I'll keep it going. I still get questions about CC, so I'll keep those resource links up. Click here to see my Cycle 1 weekly plans from a few years ago.

The book business is going well, and I have that blog going, too. Please head over and check it out if you enjoy Usborne books! This little side business is now paying for Anna's medical bills, so God is providing there, too. Whew! And it also took us to Ireland recently! Click here to check that out!

Thank you so much for your prayers and support through the years, friends. I know many of you have been faithful in praying for Anna, and we appreciate you more than you know. I'll keep you updated on her condition as much as I can. She's been a trooper through everything, and I'm just overwhelmed by God's mercy and grace in blessing us with these beautiful children. I'm learning to trust the Engineer day by day...

Again, thank you, friends, and whatever your school year looks like, I pray that it's fabulous!

  4. Hi Melody, I'm so sad that Anna's condition has not improved. I will pray for her. Speaking about the Flip Cycle Books, I'd like very much to try to translate one into French home-schooling (I'm French). So I'd be very happy if you could transfer me the Photoshop Elements file, in order to adapt the text to our school requirements. Would that be possible ? I've thought of a DropBox or a WeTransfer solution. Let me know if that's an idea that seems fine. My Facebook is Fhere (https://www.facebook.com/florence.kennel), and there we could communicate by private mail. And meanwhile, all my best for the medical issues. Best regards, Florence

    1. Thank you, Florence, for your prayers for Anna. As far as the flip book, I'm unable to send it out because of copyright laws. I believe it's still available as a download on C3. Thanks again!

  8. Well, I just found you and am so sad to read about this new twist in life's path for you and your family. Your blog and files on C3 have been so helpful to me over the past few weeks as I'm just beginning CC with my 6th grader who we pulled from traditional school. I don't even know you, but you have impacted my life! Thank you so much for the effort you put into this blog and helping all of us. May the Lord watch over you, give you wisdom for the days ahead, and most importantly complete restoration in your daughter's body!

Your Science memory sheets, especially, have been so helpful for us. Thank you, thank you! And I'll definitely be praying for this new adventure for you! God bless

    1. Oops! Got you mixed up with tara504. I've used so much of your stuff, I just assumed the science sheets were yours. Thank you for the flip book and allll the other resources you've worked on.

  10. God bless you all immensely, I've used some of your resources before and I had not checked any other blog entries other than download documents etc. My daughter is on week nine of chemotherapy she has NF1 and we had a baby recently born with another genetic mutation , he has cornelia de lange syndrome. We have been in the hospital more than anything. I'm so sorry you go through so much. I can relate. I wanted to start cc this year but will have to do my own little version at home. It would be a waste of money because so many unexpected hospitalizations and appointments, I'm sure we would be missing out on stuff especially my five year old who is healthy unlike sister and baby brother. I'm happy you found peace in Jesus with your decision!

  11. I hope and pray your little Anna is doing okay. It's very tough for us parents to see our children sick, if we could only take away all the pain and have it for ourselves we'll gladly do it. Students working in buying essays online here are very much inspired to follow your story and your blog. It's good to know that despite it all you remain strong and faithful to the Lord.

  12. Thank you for sharing your story! We will pray for your family! I love that you have books that correlate with CC! We are new this year, and I am starting to tutor my sons 6th grade masters class next semester! These books will be very useful! Praying for healing for Anna, and sanity for you! Also for the school to be going well for Mary!! Blessings,
    Christi
