I'm very, very excited about Mary completing Level 1 because, well, it's one of the only things we've really stuck with throughout her schooling (so far). It fits right in the the classical model of memorization to train the brain to retain, and I can tell such a difference in how quickly she can memorize something now, a year and a half since we started! It's incredible, and it only takes about 10 minutes of our morning!
Everyday when I fix Mary's hair, we say our poetry and Shakespeare. It's just what we do, like brushing our teeth - and the routine is working for us (thank You, Lord!).
The IEW poetry program has 5 levels, and each level takes about a year. There are 20 poems in each level, with Level 5 being important speeches to memorize, and we just LOVE it! We celebrated Mary's accomplishment in a BIG way, too! We had family over, she recited all 20 poems, and then we had cake and ice cream. It was a blast! And I'm just sooo proud of my big girl (and thankful to God for helping me to keep on keepin' on with this!).
