It certainly took a long time, but I think this flip chart is much better than the one I did for Cycle 1. You may think it's a little early to start thinking about Cycle 2, but I like to be an early bird when I can. And have you checked out Pinterest lately?! Mamas are already pinning tons of ideas for the next cycle! Awesome!
If you'd like to make your own flip chart like this, the pdf can be found on C3:
username: melodystroud
file name: Cycle 2 Memory Work Flip Chart
After printing, you'll have to go to the Latin page and add the macrons yourself (those small lines above some of the letters); I didn't know how to do that on the computer. Everything is in the chart except the Bible passage, Ephesians 6:1-24. I know that some communities use different versions, so you can just type that up yourself if you're so inclined. All the pages fit nicely into a 4 x 6 photo album. I stopped by Dollar General yesterday to pick one up (True Living Brag Book to be exact), and it was only $1. I'm telling you, these little flip charts are SO much handier than flipping through that big Foundations Guide (and I'm not knockin' the FG, but you know that thing is HUGE!). And they're great to keep in your purse, too, especially if you're headed to the library. So, whew! I'm just so glad it's done now!
We returned to our CC community yesterday after an 8 or 9 week break. It wasn't supposed to be that long, but then weather and sickness pushed us back a few extra weeks. It was SO GREAT to be back! I love that Mary sees other kids learning the same things she is, and all of the children are really excited about being together. Rumor is, our class is the rowdiest; I wouldn't doubt that. ;)
Our fabulous tutor had an exciting game for the kids to play for review:
They got to go FISHING (the chairs are their boat)! On the back of each fish was a review question.
Mary's reeling one in!
The fishing game was fun for the kids, but honestly, it was stressful for me. They all had a hard time getting the magnet to land on the paper clip; it felt like it was taking for-e-ver (insert Sandlot movie clip here - remember that part? Too funny!) Anyway, the kids absolutely loved it, of course, but I was thinking, Let's speed this up! Here, let me catch one for ya! Can't we get some more questions in?! During lunch, I was talking to a sweet friend whose son is in the class with Mary. I complained (yes, I know, I know, complaining is terrible) about how long the fish game took, and then BOOM! It's like God spoke right through her to me. She said, "Yeah, but we want the kids to have fun, too, and be excited about learning."
Ouch! I was pretty embarrassed.
I can tell I'm going to have to work on the fun part of learning for a long time, probably for-e-ver. ;)
Yes, yes, I'd already fallen back into my review-machine mode. So, thank you, friend, for gently reminding me that reviewing does not always equal drilling. And thank you, Mary's awesome tutor, for creating a review game that the kids LOVED to play.
Okay, enough humble pie for me. ;) Let's end on a happy note:
Isn't this a cute picture?! In Art this week, we're studying Ghiberti. He was the Italian artist who created the bronze doors for the Baptistry of Florence in the early Renaissance. So, all the kids used clay and made three-dimensional doors with pictures that were supposed to tell something from the Bible. How cool! Mary said this door told the story of when God sent the snakes to the Israelite camp. Yikes! Ha!
Have to run, more later, friends!
This post is being submitted to Brandy's January CC Blog Carnival at Half-a-Hundred Acre Wood.
Hey Melody...I really LOVE this flip chart, but I'm not on CC Connected. Is there any way I could buy it/get it some other way? You did a great job putting it together! Thanks! Stacey
ReplyDeleteHey, Stacey! A friend and I were just talking yesterday about sharing and copywrite laws. I think I may have shared too freely in the past, and I sure don't want to do anything to go against CC corporate. So, although I would LOVE to help out all the mamas who arent' on C3, I'm just going to have to encourage you to join it to get the file. I know, bummer. But it's the right thing, and C3 is really, really awesome! However, if you want to make your own by typing in the information from the Foundations Guide, I'd be more than happy to email you my template (it's in Photoshop Elements)! Just send me your email address and I'll send that along. And it really doesn't take that long, I'd say 8 or 9 hours total. I got mine done in a few nights. Anyway, blessings to you, my friend, and let me know if you want the template! :)
DeleteHey Melody...thanks for the info! I wasn't sure if you had a Teachers Pay Teachers page or something like that. I don't know if you're familiar with it, but with your creativity you could really do well on TPT. I don't have photoshop so I'm not sure if the template would work on my computer :/. But thanks anyway! I'm sure I can come up with something by looking at the foundations guide. Thanks!
DeleteHey, Stacey! Send me an email. If you already own the Foundations Guide 4th Edition I can email you the file! :) And yes, I'm actually already on TPT! In my former life I was a high school English teacher, so all of my PowerPoints and papers are in my store. I haven't mentioned it on the blog bc it's not really homeschooly stuff. Anyway, shoot me an email!
DeleteMelody, Would you please send me the template? I am not on CC3 any longer bc we left our group, however I do use CC at home. I just cannot pay the money for the membership. thank you in advance! Dawsonbrenda730@gmail.com
DeleteCould you email it to me as well? We are just starting the cc program. jcleadsus@msn.com
DeleteThank you.
Hi Stacy, Could I also get the file? (The above link does not work) I own a current copy of CC memory work but this would be so helpful!
Deletenstiekes@yahoo.com
Hi!
DeleteI can't get the above link to work either. When I click on it, the page says, "Page Not Found. Error 404" at http://www.halfahundredacrewood.com/2012/05/what-is-cc-connected/
TheSherwoodAcademy@yahoo.com
Thanks!
I would like a copy of this cycle 2 flip book. We are new to classical conversations this year. I can not afford a subscription to cc connected. Thank you. milkatwal@gmail.com
DeleteHello-I'm in the same boat and would like to know if I could get a copy as well. rajenkins.us@gmail.com. Much appreciation in advance!
DeleteI am brand new to CC and in fact, we wont start until 2017 (fall), but I've bought my foundations book and want to get this flip book file for cycle 3. Help??
Delete-super serious newbie
Mamametesh@gmail.com
Hi Melody, Can you send me the email as well?
Deletevickiasosa@yahoo.com
Thank you for your time and all you do.
I would appreciate an email as well. I care for my mother-in-law with dementia and we aren't able to travel the 50 mile round trip to CC right now. We've done it for 5 years, but it is just impossible to leave the house much at all right now. Thanks!
Deletewoodard.kimberlyj@gmail.com
I put mine together today, and it looks great! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteHey, girl! I'm so glad you like it! Rock on!
DeleteWhere can I find the CC Cycle 2 memory card link? :)
DeleteHey! I had typed up all the C1 Memory work so my older kids could do copywork to learn the memory work (except timeline...the song is all my kids need). I, too had issues w/ the Latin macrons. I finally figured it out in Word. There is a "symbols" tab, you just look up Latin, and viola! At any rate, this is so fabulous, it's not a prob at ALL to add the macrons, but I thought you might want to know what I figured out, for future reference...you may be able to cut and paste from a Word Doc.. :) Blessings.
ReplyDeletep.s., I grew up in B'ham, and loved going up to H'ville to visit the Space Ctr. I live in GA, now, and my kids can't wait to make the trip. :D Maybe it will tie nicely in w C2!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, KJ! Thanks for the tip with the macrons; I'll definitely be checking that out! Yes, the Space Center is pretty cool, but my girls don't get it yet. Ha! Maybe by Week 10 of next cycle we can get them pumped about it. ;) Glad you stopped by, friend! And thanks again for the tip!
DeleteHi Melody,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say THANK YOU! These are awesome and I'm completely giddy over getting this put together. I've been meaning to do it for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it until now, but it will be SO much easier reviewing with my daughter. Thank you again for sharing with us. Great idea!
I'm so glad you like the chart, Erin! I was totally giddy about it, too, after I made it! It really does save SO much time, and I love how neatly it fits into my purse. :) Thanks for your sweet comment, friend!
DeleteI hadn't made time to download the Cycle 1 flip chart yet, but today I did both and am happily printing away. Thank you so much for making your work available. By the way, I don't see your scanned timeline cards on CC connected anymore? Did they ask you to take them down? The reason I ask is because I used your pdfs to make stickers of the Timeline cards and was considering uploading those to CC connected. . .
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle! I just put a Cycle 1 upgrade on C3, so you may want to check and see if you've got the 'improved' Cycle 1 chart. :) The scanned timeline cards have been removed. You can upload your timeline stickers and see what happens, though. They might get to stay. I wasn't told or asked anything about my scanned in cards, they were just taken down. Bummer. Anyway, glad you like the charts, friend! And be sure you have the newest Cycle 1! :)
DeleteDanielle, Timeline stickers sound AWESOME!!! How do you use them? Or what do you use them on? I'm thinking that my girls would do ANYTHING so long as it involved stickers! ;-)

ReplyDeleteMelody!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I just downloaded the file from C3. I am very excited, and look forward putting my brag book together. Know that you are appreciated. Mom's like you have made my journey in CC very sweet. I will be saying a special prayer of thanks and blessings for you.
Kelly
Oh, Kelly, your comment is such a blessing! I'm so glad this little flip chart can help you with Cycle 2! And thank you, friend, for the prayer and blessing. :)
DeleteMelody,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your work. Will you be updating the Cycle 2 Flip Chart with the updated timeline?
Thanks!
MLI
Oh, my! I must be out of the loop! Has the timeline been changed since this past year? I went by the Foundations Guide 4th Edition when I made the Cycle 2 Flip Chart. Has something changed??
DeletePrinting it now! I had already made copies of the 8 1/2 x 11 review pages and put them in a binder for "dinnertime" review, but this is much better!! No big binder on the table now :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the flip chart will be a blessing to your family!
DeleteThe flip chart is great- thank you! Is there anyway you could do a set without the answers? It would be a great way to make a little drill book for my kiddos that are reading- one side has just the headings (tell me about the crusades) and then the other side would have the full chart. I tried to see if I could somehow edit it myself but I can't! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI tried going back to edit the chart, but then I realized it would take hours upon hours. So, I'll have to pass on that. I'm sorry. However, I'll try to do that when I make the Cycle 3 book later in the year. Will you remind me?
DeleteThis is SO helpful! I am new to CC and am jumping in completely with tutoring as well. Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteYou're so welcome, Kristi! I hope it works out for you!
DeleteThank you sooooo much! Just finishing printing mine. As a first time, tight-budget, CC mom, this is a huge blessing for our family. Thanks for doing all the hard work!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Melissa! Don't forget to write in Thailand in Geo. for Week 20 (left off by mistake). :)
DeleteI so appreciate this! We are new to CC this year and this will be very helpful for me. I also have one in Challenge A and she will be reviewing memory work with us - this flip chart is so compact and EASY!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it, Mary! Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to add in Thailand in Geo. for Week 20 (oops!). Thanks! :)
DeleteThanks - just printed this out - what a wonderful resource!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like it, Andrea! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteMelody, Thank you so very much for sharing your God given talent and time with us! You are a HUGE blessing and you are appreciated! May the Lord multiply your blessings now and in eternity!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Wendi
Thank you so much, Wendi! What an encouraging comment, friend. God bless you, too! :)
DeleteThanks so much for sharing! I printed my copy tonight. I can't wait to pop it into a photo album tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it, Paula! Don't forget to add Thailand in Geo. for Week 20 (left off by mistake). Thanks! :)
DeleteTHANK YOU so much for the awesome flip chart idea! I'm printing mine now and am grateful for the fun & much easier to travel with little guide! :)
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so happy it's been helpful to you! We use ours almost everyday. :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteLove this! I just completed mine yesterday and we have already used it a couple of times. I shared pictures of ours on my blog! Thanks again for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'm glad it's working out for you, Kara! We use ours all the time. Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to add in Thailand in Geo. for Week 20 (oops!). Thanks!
DeleteDo you have one put together for Cycle 3, I did a bit of searching on your blog, but I'm thinking no...ya?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, but I plan to work on one after the new year. However, if you'd like to make the one for cycle 3, go for it, friend! :)
DeleteThis is so awesome! I just printed these out - thanks for your help!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome, Julie! Don't forget to add Thailand to Week 20! :)
DeleteJust fyi, for my CC blogger bestie. In Week 2, omnivore is spelled onmivore. Oh, and thanks for the Thailand heads-up in week 20! Also, could you credit yourself somewhere on the printables? When someone asks who did this awesome flipbook, we want to refer them back to you!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again soooo much for sharing your creativity with us!!
Thanks for the heads-up, Melissa, about the onmivore. Eeek! I made the flip chart in Photoshop, and it's a big, fat hassle to make any changes. I'll have to do a much better job of checking for errors on the Cycle 3 book. And on the next one, I'll put my blog name or something, too. Thanks for the encouragement, friend! :)
Deletethis is HUGELY helpful!!! thank you SO much for sharing! i love to see the big picture so easily, and easy to review too! We have used this much more than the flashcards (purchased) so far - they are great too but i really appreciate your cards, thanks again.... love love love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm SO glad it's helpful to your family, friend! Awesome!! :) Thanks for taking the time to comment, too. :)
DeletePlease help me. I am at a lost as to how to download the Cycle 2 Memory flip chart. I have looked and looked but I can't find it. I keep getting redirected but NO Flip Chart. :(
ReplyDeleteSend me an email with your address and I'll see if I can help. :) My email is on the right sidebar.
DeleteI can not thank you enough for your generosity ion sharing this flip chart! We joined in week 9, so this is going to make catch up work so much easier for me!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome! Be sure to check out the History Cards on C3, too; they're our favorite! :)
DeleteI am on cc connected but I cannot find flip books for cycle 2 or 3. Are they available? shaynmack @hotmail.com
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeleteAny chance you will have a cycle 3 flip chart soon? Already planning for next year. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes, Tamara! It's already up on C3 under username: melodystroud. Enjoy!
DeleteHello! We started CC this past year, and our tutors pointed us to your flip charts! They were wonderful! Both my 4th grader and 6th grader just proofed as "Memory Masters" this past week, thanks to carrying their little books around everywhere! This summer, my 6th grade daughter would like to "catch up" on her memory work and do both cycles 1 and 3. I was wondering if the flip charts are available for those cycles as well. We are on CC Connected, but I haven't used it very much and I couldn't find them there. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated! Blessings! Lisa
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa! Wow! Two Memory Masters! Way to go! :) I'm so glad the flip charts were handy for your kids; that's great! Yes, the flip charts for the other two cycles are up on C3 under username: melodystroud. Let me know if you have trouble finding them. Try going to Cycle 3 and then searching for my username, and same for the Cycle 1 book.
ReplyDeleteHi Melody!
ReplyDeleteI tried emailing you for the file but I got no response. How can I get in touch with you to get your file? Will you do one for Cycle 3? We're on the mission field so while I have all the curriculum and am part of a group back in the US I am not on the website as my location doesn't support such heavy internet usage.
Will check back for a response!
Hi!!
ReplyDeleteWow!!!
I’m soo impressed by your creativeness!
This will be my first year with CC!! I’ve homeschooled for 2 years -extremely eclectic-- and I used to teach in the public schools for oh, 8 years-- so I was/am “familiar” with cc ideas-- but not the trivium concept-- and, oh, just so much makes sense-!!
My 2 older boys are 8 and 9…
and AHH we just had twins!!! (mid March!) SO--- oh my--
I’ll be starting a new curriculum-- AND these little guys--
(saying goodbye to our old coop-- that was great, but definitely more “for fun/social stuff)….
2 things-- I can’t seem to figure out HOW to find the papers (like the flip charts!! oh what a great idea!) to print out--?
and
does anyone here do another curriculum (such as My Father’s World) and “supplement” that with CC-- (it’s charlotte mason and classical)..??
????
(it’s also quite affordable, so even if I “go wrong, I can’t go wrong?”
am i trying to do too much?
and yet-- working from bare bones and making my own curriculum for my two older sons (one will be 10 soon, :( oh sadness they grow too quickly)
I’, sure i’m very non-concise here…. please forgive!!! :)
Winona
Hi Melody!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea!
Are your templates for cycle 2 still available?
I am not a member of C3 as the nearest Community is one hour from my home.
I have Foundations Guide 4th Edition and Foundations CD cycle 2 with timeline and science cards as well as few of the extras.
I await your response, thank you for your time.
Blessings to you! Marta
Hi Melody! I am going to repost in case you missed it from last year/springtime. Thanks!

I am a new CC Mom teaching a 1st grader. I only just recently heard about the flip charts and I think they are great! I was able to successfully download the cycle 1 flip chart but had trouble with the hundred acre woods link for the cycle 2 flip chart. I realize cycle 2 does not start until next year however, I have a baby on the way and I m trying to get a jump start on prepping for next year while I have the energy! Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Monica H.

Hi Melody - I loved your Cycle 1 flip book!!! We use it every day :-) Any plans for an updated Cycle 2 book?
ReplyDeleteHello Melody - I tried the link to your Cycle 2 flip chart and it was broken :( Any chance of updating it?! It looks like it was posted awhile ago. Any help would be appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI am printing it off now and it's working fine! Check it again?
DeleteThank you Melody for this awesome flip book! I downloaded alot of stuff from CC Connected last cycle and this flip book is the only thing I actually used - and used daily! I just made one for Cycle 2 and went ahead and printed the Cycle 3 as well.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteHow do I obtain the flip books for cycle 1 and 3? Also how did you make these using MS Word or another program?
I am trying to download the flip book for cycle 2 and can't. Is there any way you can email me jenniferpace143@gmail.com a copy?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI'm also unable to find where the download is available. My daughter and I absolutely loved your C1 book last year. It's truly a huge reason why she's a Memory Master!
ReplyDeleteChecking again. I have cc connect and can not find it there.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Well done!! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteCould I possibly get a download for the flipbook for C2 please? couponlinz@hotmail.com (we are only 3 weeks in with our community and we love it! I know this would be very helpful!!)
ReplyDeleteHello Melody,
ReplyDeleteThank you for such wonderful resources. I am new to homeschooling and fell in love with your cycle flip chart. Where can I get them? Thanks for the wonderful work you do. -Alexandra
Hi Melody,
ReplyDeleteI wanted to download your cycle 2 memory chart and clicking on C3 doesn't work. You've done excellent work here, thank you. :)
