(or this post could also be called 'I Think I'm Crazy') ;)
I don't have any major health issues, and I'm not terribly overweight, but after watching the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead on Netflix, I just wanted to 'reboot' my body with a three-day juice fast. So, here's what I'm doing:
Mean Green:
6 - 8 kale leaves
1 cucumber
4 celery stalks
2 green apples
1/2 lemon
small bit of ginger root
And this is what Mean Green looks like! It's really not so bad; the ginger and lemon hide any veggie taste.
Yesterday was my Day 1. I had four Mean Greens. And. I. felt. terrible! It's SO hard not to eat! I've never done any kind of fast before. I'm hypoglycemic, which means my blood sugar can get pretty low at times, and I tend to need to eat more frequently than others. Yesterday I felt tired, irritable, and loopy. I was pretty sure when I went to bed that I would stop the fast this morning.
However. . .
I slept soooo well! And when I woke up this morning, I felt good! There is a night-and-day difference from my Day 1 to today. I've lost one pound (I know, only 1! But slow and steady. . .), and I have much more energy today. I'm not snapping at my sweet family (thank you, Lord), and I'm pretty sure I can tough it out until Wednesday at lunch. I'm drinking Mean Greens as my breakfast everyday, since even before the fast, so I'll keep doing that to get my micro nutrients. I'm glad I'm doing the fast, and I'm hoping to make it a regular thing, maybe once every couple of months, who knows. But, I'll also be glad when it's over. ;) I've got spaghetti sauce cooking in the crock pot right now, and it's about to kill me!
Anyway. . .
I've got the Cycle 2 Memory Work Flip Chart finished, sans the proofing. My girls tried to help with that:
Yeah. . . sweet, huh? ;) So, it might be a few more days before it goes 'live' on C3. But I'm really excited about it, and I can't wait to share!
Mary and I started something new today - Monday Funday! Since our CC day is on Tuesday, we do Crecia's lesson plans Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and then we review it all on Monday. So, we started playing some fun review games today, hence the new Monday Funday idea. It's working out pretty well so far, and I'm glad to get some review in before heading back to CC tomorrow.
Make your week wonderful, friends!
I'd LOVE to taste the Mean Green. Wesley and I have been wanting to try making some healthy juices or smoothies or something to help get some more of the good stuff. Also Monday Funday sounds like a great idea!! LOVE it! Can't wait to see you soon!!
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of bummed that I couldn't last the full 3 days, but I wasn't doing it the way that I should (should have drunk 5 juice drinks, but only had time for 3 each day), so no wonder, right. And, I didn't have some really great motivation like trying to beat cancer or something (are these excuses good enough?? ;) ). But, the drink is good, and I plan to keep it as my daily breakfast. Yes, Monday Funday was a hit today! Hopefully it will continue to go well. I'll see you soon, girl! :)
Deletedo you mind sharing what your monday FUNday review games were/are? i love new ideas to review. reviewing at home is sometimes different than at co-op since there are less of us here. :) also, do you need a juicer for the mean green????
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for stopping by! I'll do a separate post about my Funday Monday review games; thanks for the great idea! :) I took some pictures of the games, now I've just got to put it all together in a post. Hopefully it will be up soon. About mean green, I'm pretty sure you'll need a juicer for it. However, there are tons of recipes online for healthy green smoothies that you can make in a blender. Kale is a super-food, so try to get lots of that in if you can. God bless you, friend!
DeleteI love green juices. Here are two you can try (if you would like:-)
ReplyDelete1. Water, spinach and frozen blueberries
2. Water, spinach, frozen mango slices, and frozen strawberries.
You can add kale to either one if you'd like, but kale makes them taste a little more like grass ( at least to me).
Awesome, Yvana! Thanks for the recipes; I can't wait to try them!! :) How's that sweet baby?
DeleteLet me know if you like them. My oldest and I made some for one of his CC presentations - show us how to make something.
DeleteHe really likes the blueberry drink, but we found out that the juice doesn't taste so great if you let it sit for about two hours even though we had it in a cold stainless steel water bottle. His poor classmates, their moms and tutor were all good sports and tasted it, we let them taste it andthendrank ours - we quickly realized why they made funny faces. His tutor said, "tastes very healthy," I had to inform them that it actually does taste much better when you first drink it. :-)
I meant when you first make it, not first drink it. :-p
DeleteBTW- baby is beautiful. Keeping me very busy. We will actually be starting school on Monday. The kids have already returned to CC, but my husband has taken them. Please pray that I can balance homeschooling my two oldest, while keeping our 20 month old entertained and taking are of our new sweet baby girl.
Blessings Friend!
I'm drinking the smoothie with mango now; thanks so much for the recipe! Delicious! I'll definitely be praying for you and your family as you start back to school. Hang in there, girl! The year's half-way over! God bless you and your sweet family, Yvana! :)
DeleteGlad you liked the smoothie and thank you for the prayers. :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you use a juice maker or a blender? Also, I'm going to try Yvana's recipes too. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle! I used a juicer for Mean Green and a blender for Yvana's smoothies. Delicious! :)
DeleteGreen drinks are considered to be nutritional powerhouses because they naturally contain many of good elements which are superior and potent sources of high quality nutrients.
