My fabulous, wonderful, ah-mazing hubs scanned all the cards in (front-side only), shrunk them down, and then I laminated them. Woot!
First I printed out the file, then I taped a pretty scrapbook page to the back. Next I cut each card out, numbered the back, and then I hit the laminator.
It helped me to use a different scrapbook page/print for each page of cards. This way, when they're all scattered across the floor it's easy to just group by design rather than having to look at each number.
The mini's (that's what I'm calling them; they're just too cute!) fit in standard baseball card sleeves. I've got some in my CC binder, and then the cards for the current week I keep in a little basket I picked up at the dollar store. Now Mary can mix them up and put them in the correct order to review! Easy cheesy!
If you'd like your own Timeline Mini's, you'll have to make them yourself. I know, bummer, right?! But you can do it! Just scan, print, laminate, and there you go! :)

DeleteOoo, it might be worth joining C3 just for those! I was thinking it would be great to have little timeline card icons to stick on the timeline part of the Wisdom and Righteousness lapbook. (Have you seen those lapbooks? Uh-mazing). Definitely thank that husband of yours. Hmm, maybe I need a scanner myself. . . :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Danielle! C3 is definitely worth it, in my opinion. I get tons of good stuff there! Yes, we have the W&R lapbook for Cycle 1. It looks so great! I haven't brought it out yet, though, bc I think my big girl (who's 4) is still a bit young for it. But, I've got it all printed out ready to go for the next time Cycle 1 rolls around. :) w&R has a new Orchestra Book coming out, too, that looks fantastic! Thanks for stopping by, Danielle! DeleteHi Melody! Your blog is AMAZING for supplemental CC curriculum!! This is our first year and two of four of our children are doing CC- (1) K and (1) PreK. I was very overwhelmed with how to relate the rich material they are memorizing to a K level until I found your blog at the beginning of the school year. My husband and I are in ministry as well, and I am tutoring this year with 2 kids in the program. I could never find the time to do all that you are doing. Thanks for making these things accessible to people like myself. Could you list some practical ways to use all of your fun review ideas? Such as these mini cards. Do you just have your daughter work with the current week and put them in order, or does she have to know the names of the cards, or something about the cards. Do you ever see how many she can do over a series of a couple of weeks? ALSO, something else I love is your geography cards! What other fun things do you do with them? Just hang them on the wall and talk about them, or what does your daughter do with them to help her remember the info? Thanks so much for EVERYTHING! :) Amanda
ReplyDeleteHi, Amanda! I'm so glad you like the review goodies! For the mini timeline cards, right now she just puts the weekly cards in order, one week at a time. As she gets older, I'd love for her to be able to tell me a fact from the back or something more detailed that she's learned about each event as she puts them in order. For the geography cards, another reader suggested using them as a review game, which is a GREAT idea! She mixes them all up and has a child draw a card from the deck. ReplyDeleteWe are using the geography continents and oceans cards to place where they belong in relation to each other. On the kitchen table or inside a hulu hoop laid on the floor to represent the world.

ReplyDeleteYes, and it makes it SO much easier to group them together! Have fun! Oh, and I put little magnets on the back of them now, so Mary can put them in order on a big white board while I clean dishes or whatever. Just an idea, go wild! :)
DeleteI just got them all scanned in, i might print 7 per page, and i will see if i have scrapbook paper that is blank on one side, then i can just run that through the printer. My kids are LOVING a memory game they got from church, so i will be making two sets, so they can play memory :) Thanks!
DeleteWhat is the actual size of the minis? How many did you print per 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of card stock?
ReplyDeleteThey're 2 inches wide by 3 inches high. After laminating, they'll fit nicely into baseball card sleeves. I have a binder just for the mini cards, and it's very handy! I print them wallet size, so I think 12 per page(?). Hope that helps!
